Definvest is the strategic investment fund of the French armed forces ministry, managed on its behalf by Bpifrance, the French state investment bank. It takes minority equity stakes in small and mid-sized companies judged critical to defence sovereignty, protecting and consolidating the French industrial base. Because it invests in French companies, a Ukrainian firm engages through a French entity, accepting that this is dilutive rather than grant capital.
