Why

Rounds under $1M and over $1M are different by nature

First cheques under $1M are often written for the product and the team. Above $1M an investor asks different questions, and a company expecting the same requirements as for its first cheques can spend months failing to close the round.

Going abroad works the same way. Preparing for a first foreign delivery or a joint venture takes 4–6 months. Start when the order is already on the table, and the customer may not wait.

What we look at

Three areas we assess

We look at the company's overall growth strategy, beyond round readiness: what the business stands on, whether it can be shown to an investor, and whether it is ready to sell abroad.

Business maturity
Does the business stand on its own, without the founder steering every decision?
What it decides
Whether the company can handle the scale it is raising money for.
Investment
Can the company be shown to an investor today without losing them on the first call?
What it decides
How long the round takes and at what valuation it closes.
Sales and export
Is the company ready to sell abroad: export permits, direct supply, a joint venture, licensing?
What it decides
Whether there is revenue beyond a single customer, and whether the company can take a foreign order.

The outcome

A written report

Two working days after the call you receive the report. It stays with you: work on it yourselves or with anyone you choose.

  • A readiness level for each area, from 1 to 4
  • The main blockers, in order of priority
  • A 90-day plan, week by week
  • Who closes each item: you, your lawyer or accountant, or us
  • A date for the follow-up diagnostic

Diagnostic vs Demo Day

How it differs from a VC Demo Day

A fund's Demo Day selects companies for its portfolio. The diagnostic prepares a company for those pitches and negotiations, so it arrives with the basic questions already closed.

Who it is for

Who should come now, and who should wait

You do not need to be raising right now. It is most useful 3–12 months before a round or a new market.

A good fit
  • Defense and dual-use companies with a product and first deliveries
  • You plan a round in the next 3–12 months, from a first million to a large round
  • You are not raising, but want to go abroad: export, a JV, licensed production
  • You are already talking to investors, and the deal is stuck for no clear reason
Too early
  • Only an idea, or a prototype with no deliveries
  • You only need an investor contact, without a look at the company

FAQ

What people usually ask

The readiness diagnostic is a detailed one-on-one review of a defense or dual-use company across three areas (business, investment, sales and export); within 2 working days you get a written report with a 1–4 level for each area, the blockers and a 90-day plan.

Within a monthly cohort the diagnostic is free. Outside the cohort it is paid, on individual terms. The report stays with you, and you can work on it yourselves or with anyone. Carrying out the plan together is discussed separately.

Only the team running the diagnostic. We sign an NDA on request. Nothing goes to investors without your consent.

Yes, if you plan to go abroad, set up joint production or license your product. A foreign partner checks a company on almost the same points as an investor.

Yes. The scale is the same for everyone; only the starting level differs. For a large company the conversation is usually about the next round, a structure for foreign capital and new markets.

One cohort a month, 6 places. The first cohort runs in November 2026. If the places are taken, we offer a slot in the next cohort or a paid diagnostic on individual terms.

The valuation calculator gives an indicative valuation range in a few minutes, plus a list of what to prepare before you talk to an investor. The diagnostic is a conversation with our team and a written report: readiness levels across three areas, the blockers and a 90-day plan.
